Well, I’ve been sniffing like a bloodhound
Looking for a new sound
Searching all over for a different kind of song
I’ve even tried to look
Through the pages of a book
But I know that it’s wrong, it’s wrong, it’s wrong
All the junk that I see
On my MTV
Buzzes all around me like a bumblebee
Punk rock
Gunk rock
Junk rock
Stunk rock
Money for nothing and shice for free
You know it’s so hard to find good honest rock’n’roll on the radio these days
From the old craze to the next phase
And I’ll be falling asleep with the radio on
Falling asleep with the radio on
The thunder and lightning
Is all too frightening
The scary storm all but surrounds me
The rain is pounding
The wind resounding
And thunder and lightning all around me
You know I had this irrational fear ever since I was a little kid
Under the covers I hid
But now I fall asleep with the radio on
Fall asleep with the radio on
The roads are icy
The weather is shicy
And I’m a long way from home
A hundred miles to go
Through the rain and the snow
Traffic all around but I’m alone
But when I finally get home I’ll have a shower and dinner when I’m nice and dry and warm
Then I’ll cuddle up in my baby’s arms
And we’ll be falling asleep with the radio on
Falling asleep with the radio on

This song is one of my "throwaways" from when I was serving in the Israeli army. I was stationed on the Golan Heights in the spring of 1986 sleeping in tents on the dry grass, sharing the environment with all sorts of wildlife, and I was thinking of what it would be like to be at home in my own bed, listening to the radio like I used to as a kid in the 1970s when I would listen to the music on stations from all over the New York and New Jersey area. Musically, it's a pop-rock ditty, an upbeat, major-key version of a tune that had come to me when I was walking on the boardwalk back in Long Beach, New York, on a Saturday afternoon when I was about four or five years old.
